Certificates of Deposit and Individual Retirement Accounts
Certificates of Deposit (CDs) and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are great ways to start saving for your future. With a variety of terms and great interest rates, First National Bank of the South wants to help your money work for you. So, whether you're just saving money for vacation or future home renovations, or want to open an IRA for retirement, we can help.
We also offer two relatively new types of IRAs - Roth and Educational IRAs - which may be of benefit to you. With a Roth IRA, contributions to your Roth IRA are not tax-deductible but your interest earned is tax-deferred. With the Educational IRA for post high school education expenses, you are allowed to take tax-free distributions from the account after five successive tax years when you met certain criteria. To find out more, visit one of our bank offices.
If you are 55 years of age or older, you qualify for special CD rates. Monthly interest checks are available on most First National Bank of the South Certificates of Deposit.
SEP Plans (Simplified Employee Pensions)
The Sep is a great type of IRA set up to allow contributions by your employer, which may be considered a deductible expense for tax purposes. We recommend you visit a tax advisor to discuss your personal tax situation before starting a Simplified Employee Pension plan.
